SAIG-Basis is the entry-level certificate. It demonstrates that the holder understands the fundamental principles of AI and can use AI safely in low-risk contexts, with awareness of the key risks and responsibilities.
What a SAIG-Basis holder demonstrates.
A holder can use AI safely and responsibly within low-risk activities. Specifically:
- Understands in broad terms how generative AI works and where its limitations lie
- Recognises risks such as hallucinations, bias and unreliable sources
- Uses AI tools safely, with attention to privacy and confidentiality
- Checks AI output for accuracy before it is used
- Knows when a task is too risky for independent AI use

How to obtain it.
Take an accredited SAIG-Basis training
The training covers the full Basis curriculum. Typical duration: one day, classroom or online.
Complete the digital knowledge test
A standardised digital test measures basic knowledge and risk awareness.
Receive the certificate
On a sufficient result you receive the certificate and are entered into the public register.
How assessment works.
SAIG-Basis has a single assessment component: a standardised digital knowledge test comprising multiple-choice and short open questions on the Basis curriculum. Duration approximately 30 minutes. Marked automatically against a fixed pass mark.
Valid for 24 months.
SAIG-Basis is valid for 24 months. Recertification is carried out via a short refresher test focused on new developments and legislative changes.
